Marcus Henderson, JSH class of 2003 was a four year football and track student athlete and peer leader during his years in Jennings. Marcus became is an actor best known for his role as Roman “Walter” Armitage in the Oscar-winning horror film “Get Out”.
Marcus was born in St. Louis to Leon and Barbara Henderson (long time JSD employee/Head Secretary at Jennings Educational Trainings School “JETS”. Marcus’ brother, Leon Henderson Jr. also attending the Jennings School District. Marcus first attended college at Alabama State University on a football scholarship after compiling over 100 total tackles his senior year at Jennings playing defensive end.
While at Alabama State, Marcus became a member of the Gamma Beta chapter for Phi Beta Sigma. While there, he saw a one-man show performed by Charles Dutton, which led to his first professional role as an uncredited extra in the film HoneyDripper. Dutton wrote Henderson a letter of recommendation to the Yale School Of Drama, where Henderson graduated in 2011. He is married and has two daughters and lives in Los Angeles.
Marcus has been back to the Jennings School District to celebrate the opening of a new school year as well as serve as our guest speaker at Jennings Senior High School commencement ceremonies.
