Randy Carter

Inducted 2011

Faculty, Warrior Basketball

There are more than 500 basketball programs in the State of Missouri and more than 1,000 coaches for both boys’ and girls’ teams, but only some of them have what the Jennings School District has–2 Hall of Fame Head Basketball Coaches…….In Hal Moore…..AND Randy Carter.
Coach Carter was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on October 10, 2010 in Springfield, Missouri.  Carter’s career coaching numbers, though, are impressive: 425 wins and 248 losses, averaging nearly 18 wins per season over the past 24 years.
Playing larger schools with higher enrollments and larger pools of basketball players to draw from makes Carter’s achievement that much more remarkable.
His coaching philosophy over the years is to take good students, teach fundamentals, encourage hard work and the winning will take care of itself. “Winning is important, but not the end all, be all,” he would say.
Carter has molded good teams and good players at Jennings. His coaching highlights include:

· Four Missouri Final Four appearances–1993, 1997, 1999 and 2000.

· Five state quarterfinals appearances.

· Ten District Championships.

· Eight Suburban East Conference Championships, including 135 conference wins verses 45 losses.

· Conference record of 38 consecutive wins, December 1996-December 2002.

· School record of 26 consecutive wins (1992-93.)

1986-87 Basketball was Coach Carter’s first year at the helm.
